We need you! Our volunteers are provided with a free lunch, a small stipend, and the opportunity to ride in one of the studded race cars during a track session.

Volunteer Duties
Below is a general list of volunteers needed for each race day. Many positions do not require previous experience and can be trained on the day of the event. Some positions are permanent, season-long positions that require training or experience.
Saturday - Wheel to Wheel Racing and Open Track
Chief Steward
In charge of all on track activities and volunteers including training of
Assures event safety and runs track during events
Recovery Truck Driver and Helper
Controls IIRA tow truck. With the Chief Steward's direction tows cars out from snow banks and disabled cars to pits. Located in center of track so to see track activity
Helper and driver work as a team to hook up cars to recovery truck and monitor traffic for safety
Race Director, Timing and Scoring
Uses the Flagtronics system to electronically control flag status at the direction of the Chief Steward. Corner workers may also control flag status for their own zone with their handheld units.
Records race results, including lap times, finishing order, etc.
Corner Workers / Flaggers
One flagger will be positioned at the start/finish line. Works with the Chief Steward for starting and finishing races and cautions and race stoppages
Up to seven corner workers/flaggers will be strategically positioned on predetermined corners throughout the track. They are responsible for displaying flag status, notifying the Chief Steward of racing incidents or hazards, and controlling their flagging zone with the Flagtronics handheld controllers. Corner workers should work in pairs.
Pit Lane Stewards
One Steward will control the exit of pit lane to make sure cars have their lights on, tech stickers, and make sure entering the track can be done safely
Another Steward will coordinate with the Chief Steward in lining up cars for starts for each session
Entry and Registration
Positioned at entry to the race pit/paddock area. This person makes sure all entrants sign the IIRA liability waiver at a minimum and hands out wristbands once the waiver is signed. In addition, this person uses the registration list to make sure all racers are properly registered for the event they are intending to participate in.
The IIRA trailer may be used for warmth/shelter for the entry and registration volunteer
Chief Technical Inspector
Upon registration, the inspector checks all participating cars for safety and compliance to the rules. Upon a passing inspection, the car is issued a sticker which must be applied to the windshield
After an incident (such as contact with the snow bank or a rollover) the car may be reinspected at the discretion of the Chief Technical Inspector or Chief Steward
Track Setup and Teardown
Assistance is needed for placing corner marking pipes, cones, positioning equipment, track plowing adjustments, etc. This is a big effort that is needed before and after each race day and the on-track events cannot be started until this is complete

Timing and Scoring
Operates, sets up and breaks down timing equipment at start
Recovery Truck Driver

Ice Condition Scout
