EVENT UPDATE 2/6/24
The IIRA has put a lot of effort into attempting to host an event in the abnormally warm 2024 winter season. Unfortunately, ice conditions on lakes have not been safe enough to host a racing event. Just like other ice racing clubs even further north of us, we haven't been able to find safe ice and are canceling the 2024 season. However, we are looking forward to hosting a get together for all members and anybody else interested this spring. Stay tuned for more details on this page, our facebook pages, and our email list. We are also planning on attending various car shows and other events during the off-season to promote the 2025 events. Many of our members are open and willing to help anyone who is interested in preparing a car to get in on the ice racing fun!
Official event calendar will be on MotorsportReg for 2024. Actual dates and locations will vary depending on ice conditions.
Tentative dates are scheduled as follows:

Locations
Events are based on several lakes in Minnesota
Race locations for a given weekend are subject to ice conditions. Lakes are evaluated for ice thickness, quality of ice (clear is the strongest), and smoothness. If no lakes meet the criteria, the event is cancelled and all participants are notified via email. No participants are charged any fees if an event is cancelled.
Below is a list of lakes that are used most commonly in recent years:
Madison Lake - Madison Lake, MN (near Mankato)
Pokegama Lake - Grasston, MN (just west of Pine City)
East Rush Lake - Rush City, MN
North Center Lake - Lindstrom, MN
What to Bring
Required Items
Drip pan if your car leaks any fluids. This is requirement from the DNR - anything that drips will go in the lake.
Helmet - Snell rating 2010 or newer
Suggested Items
Tow hooks on your car: this is a requirement for Wheel to Wheel and IceCross and highly recommended for TrackDay. In the event you are stuck in a snow bank, there should be an obvious tow point
Warm clothes! - It's winter in Minnesota on a frozen lake
Snow cleats
Snow shovel
Pit lane marker: useful for finding/reserving your spot on pit lane when a track session is over
